PRIEST RIVER — Idaho State police said a male juvenile was killed and three other people injured when the vehicle they were in crashed on U.S. 2 early Saturday afternoon.

ISP said Maria S. Montgomery, 60, of Sandpoint was westbound on U.S. 2 at about 12:55 p.m. about a mile east of Priest River when she lost control of her 2004 Toyota Corolla. ISP said Montgomery's vehicle left the roadway, went onto the north shoulder and overturned.

Also in the vehicle were three juveniles, ISP officials said. One juvenile male was transported by ground ambulance to Newport Hospital and Health Services in Newport, where he was pronounced deceased.

Montgomery and the other two juvenile passengers were transported to Sacred Heart by air ambulance, ISP officials said.

Initial crews arriving on the scene reported multiple patients with one juvenile patient ejected onto the roadway, BCEMS Chief Jeff Lindsey said in the Facebook post. An additional ambulance and Life Flight helicopters were requested due to the severity of the injuries.

Montgomery and the two other juveniles were stabilized by BCEMS Station 1 crews and flown by Life Flight to Sacred Heart in Spokane, Lindsey said.

No additional information on their condition was available at press time.

The accident blocked both lanes of travel on the highway and prompted the Bonner County Sheriff's Office to issue a Nixle alert warning of the accident.

Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is still ongoing.
