May 6, 1921 – SHERIFF FILES $20,000 SUIT

Charging conspiracy and asking damages of $20,000 for injury to his good name and reputation, Sheriff Kirkpatrick today filed a complaint in district court against James Dougherty, democratic county central committee chairman, former Mayor C.F. Ewing, Postmaster Don C.D. Moore, Rev. W.L. Livingston of the First Presbyterian church, former County Engineer Caryl W. Wilson and Herschel Weaver. The action is a result of the criminal action brought against the sheriff last month in which it was alleged he accepted a bribe from Herschel Weaver. The action resulted in a complete vindication for Sheriff Kirkpatrick at one of the most sensational hearings in local court history.
