Sandpoint boys second, girls fourth at District 1 Meet of Champions

POST FALLS — Braden Kappen won the boys 100, 200 and long jump and Taylor Petz won the girls 100 hurdles and pole vault at Thursday's District 1 Meet of Champions.

As a team, the boys captured second while the girls took fourth out of the 15 District 1 schools at the meet.

In the long jump, Kappen shattered his school record in the event with a leap of 22 feet, 4 inches. It's currently the best mark in 4A.

Petz bested her school record in the pole vault for the second time this spring with a mark of 11 feet, 1 inch, which is good for second best in the state.

Rusty Lee won the boys 110 hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles. His time of 40.79 in the 300 hurdles is the best in 4A and is about .3 seconds off the school record. Luke McCorkle was also third in the 300 hurdles.

Maren Davidson earned second in the girls 800 and freshman Aliya Strock set a personal record in the long jump to grab second.

Nikolai Braedt ran the second fastest time in 4A in the 1600 to grab second for the boys. Jett Lucas PR'd in the 800 to take second and Will Hurst did the same in the shot put to place second.

Peyton Ennis ran a PR in the 400 to take home third and Lee posted a PR of 6 feet in the high jump to secure third. Sam Becker PR'd in the pole vault to take third.

The boys 4x400 relay team captured second, finishing .04 seconds behind Post Falls. Ennis, Lee, Kappen and Ben Ricks were on the relay.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the 4A Region 1 championships next Thursday and Friday.
