FATHER-SON MOOSE HUNT WAS SUCCESS

Norman Sommerfeld and his son, Norman Curtis, and Jerry Van Ooyen and his son, Randy, ventured up to Saskatchewan’s Candle Lake area for a five-day moose hunt, joining Chris Hanson and wife, Naida, at camp. They say they had one of the most wonderful times of their lives. In four days, the five hunters bagged four moose and were the toast of the camp as there was only one other moose calf taken by five groups of hunters during that time. They feel fortunate, as they never used the services of a guide and only Chris Hanson had ever hunted moose prior to this trip.

Oct. 3, 1921 – BOY GETS PECULIAR INJURY

Gordon Pickett, the small son of Game Warden Pickett, was the victim of an unusual accident when he swallowed the needle-like end of a porcupine quill, camouflaged in a wedge of elderberry pie prepared for him by his grandmother (uaing berries Gordon and his brother, Clayton, had picked). For days his throat was in a bad condition, the source not being discovered until Tuesday when the end of the quill pushed through the skin of his neck and was discovered by his father. He was taken to a physician and the quill removed. His throat is almost completely healed now.

WANTED – TEACHER WITH KIDS

County Superintendent Mrs. Tuck is sending out an “S.O.S” for a teacher with at least two children. The Lamb Creek school in the Nordman area has not been taught for two years as there are only four children in the district and the law states there must be six to warrant holding a school term in a district. A teacher with two school age children would make up the amount needed to open the school. The district has a house for the teacher’s lodgings.

MINE WORKER MEETS DEATH AT TALACHE

Lester Ashby, 32, was killed Sunday at the Armstead mine at Talache when he slipped on a ladder while working in the main raise and fell from near the 600-ft. level to the 1200-ft. level. He was working with three men in the raise when the others saw him slip and fall, tumbling down the raise until out of sight. Ashby, who was to have been married in about a month, was a member of Sandpoint lodge No. 1376, B.P.O.E. Elks.
