SHS girls soccer grabs third 3-0 victory over Coeur d'Alene

COEUR d'ALENE — Sandpoint girls soccer spoiled the Vikings' Senior Night on Tuesday, handing Coeur d'Alene a 3-0 defeat for the third time this season.

It was a nonleague match, but assistant coach Madi Schoening could tell how badly the Bulldogs wanted a victory.

"It's always a dogfight with Coeur d'Alene," she said, "and it's hard to beat a team three times, so kind of cool that we were able to come out and give them a 3-0 run every time this year. I know the girls came out ready to play."

Kimbo Yarnell scored two goals and Piper Frank assisted on both of them. In the 61st minute, Sierrah VanGesen scored on a pass from Kate McGregor.

"All those goals were so selfless and the girls were just doing what's best for each other," Schoening said. "They played a super good game."

The Bulldogs were without both their goalies — Lilliana Brinkmeier and Kameryn Nadeja — on Tuesday. On the bus ride down to Coeur d'Alene, sophomore midfielder Hannah Harvey was told she would start at keeper.

Harvey was unfazed by the moment and made five saves for the Bulldogs to preserve their fifth straight shutout.

"She absolutely killed it," Schoening said about Harvey. "Major credit to her. It's hard to be told the day of the game you are going to be the goalie."

Sandpoint (11-0) will host five-time defending 3A state champion Coeur d'Alene Charter at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at War Memorial Field to wrap up regular season play.
