Mildred Isabelle Fitchett, 90
Mildred Isabelle Fitchett, 90, “Mickey,” “Mom,” or “Granny,” was able to have her freedom day on Saturday, October 2, 2021. She left her tired body behind and was escorted into the presence of Jesus her Lord and Savior. There she would see her husband Win, granddaughter Renee and many other family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, and a potluck meal will follow. She loved bright colors, please wear bright colors to honor her. Mickey will be laid to rest with Win at the Pack River Cemetery.
Mickey was born on January 27, 1931, in Bozeman, Mont., to Charles and Helen (Dusenberry) Carpenter. She was the third of four children. The first four years of school she rode horseback to a one room school house. In the summer of 1941 the family moved to Clarks Fork, Idaho. The family ran a dairy about three miles out of Clarks Fork.
On a spring day in 1950 she met a young man named Win Fitchett and vowed that, “I’d never marry that guy if he was the last man on earth,” but three months later they were married. They lived for 8 months in Heron, Mont., then moved to Upper Gold Creek in June 1951. Win and Mickey ran a sawmill, selling lumber to the community. They lived there until Win died in a logging accident in 1996.
Mickey was a hard working woman. She helped Win in the woods and at the sawmill, and raised two kids, Ruby and Rusty. She helped take the kids to 4-H meetings, baseball, football, basketball, school and church activities all from Upper Gold Creek. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s activities.
After Win died Mickey became a caregiver for several years. She enjoyed visiting, reading to, and caring for the older folks. Mickey attended Northside Christion Fellowship, was a member of the Chatter Bee Club, Pack River Grange, was involved with the Bonner Gospel Mission, Wishing Star Foundation, Pack River Cemetery Board, and in 1999 was honored as a Women of Wisdom.
Mickey was preceded in death by her husband Win, granddaughter Renee, her mom and dad, older brother Bert and sisters Louise and Charlene.
She is survived by her daughter Ruby (Ron) Stutzke and son Rusty (Linda) Fitchett; six grandchildren Sunshine, Sheri, Amy, Derek, Scott, Nikki, and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of the aids, nurses and doctors at Boundary County Extended Care for their wonderful and loving care of Mickey, and especially Alison for the years of sweet care she provided. Mom we will miss your laugh and your spunkiness but we’ll be seeing you soon.
