Oct. 24, 1971 – INSTALL KIWANIS OFFICERS

Sandpoint Kiwanis on Monday installed 1971-72 officers: President, Wm. Watkins, General Telephone Co.; First vice president, Clarence Reed, Lou’s Auto Parts; 2nd vice president, Tom Robideaux, Alpine Motor Co. Walt Diesem, club secretary-treasurer, who has served several terms, was reinstalled. Immediate past president is Kent McCandless, Bank of Idaho. New directors are Jim Tinsman, J.C. Penney Co.; Dr. Dick Neuder; Lee Budell, Bonner Land Title Co.; Jim Reed, State Farm Insurance; Emil Kulhanek, Kaniksu National Forest; Ted Pursley, Coast-To-Coast Store; and Bert Leonard, Pacific Power and Light co.

SOUTHSIDE SCHOOL NEWS

The Rebels began their road to victory by beating Kootenai 27- 7, then Northside 33-13 and Hope 25-19. They played Northside and Hope again, winning with scores of 19-7 and 26-6, respectively.

The eight grade held elections with the following results: President, Cassie Howard; vice president, Debbie Thompson, and treasurer, Linda Tarpley.

EMERY PRESIDES AT IOOF CONVENTION

Two state officers and three delegates from Bonner county to the I.O.O.F. and Rebekahs are at the state convention of those fraternal societies. Officers are Marvin Emery, head of the state group, and Rev. James Doak, grand musician. Earl Shrake is a Sandpoint lodge delegate. Mrs. Helen King and Mrs. Gladys Chapman represent the Rebekahs.

Oct. 24, 1921 – LOCATING ROUTE

The state bureau of public works has started on location of the survey for the 4½ mile road which will connect the city with the splendid project recently completed north of town. The road will come in on Fourth avenue, after dipping under the Spokane International tracks and crossing Sand creek.

RAIL STRIKE THREATENED

If peaceful settlement of the threatened railway strike is not effected, over 100 men will be affected on lines passing through Sandpoint. The N.P. strike will affect 100 men in the operating dept., trainmen and enginemen, four to five mechanics at Kootenai, hostlers and wipers, operators and clerks and section crews. The G.N. strike will affect a half dozen trainmen, crews which tie up daily with local freight trains in the yards here, the operators, clerks and section crews. As the S.I is not included in the strike order, transport over it will be unaffected.

NEWS FROM CLARKSFORK

Martin Bixel, Jr., who recently graduated from the Spokane automobile and tractor school, visited with his parents before leaving for South America, where he will engage in the tractor business.

Miss Ruby Montague entertained a number of little folks Thursday in honor of her 11th birthday.

The school will give a bazaar at the Reed hall Hallowe’en and are preparing for a big time.
