April 17, 1972 – NEW MISS SANDPOINT NAMED
Tall, dark-haired Margaret “Peggy” Kirk was picked Miss Sandpoint for 1972-73 Saturday in the annual pageant. Her court includes Lynn Balch, first princess; Sigrid Thompson, second princess; Sarah Hedlund, third princess; and Dianna Mahler, fourth princess.

VOTERS APPROVE FIRE DISTRICT
Northside Fire Association overwhelmingly voted to become a tax-based fire protection district, the first such rural district in the county. Although just a simple majority of those voting was needed to validate the change, the vote was 197 for and 17 against.

PANHANDLE HEALTH OFFICE MOVES
Panhandle Health District No. 1 has moved its office from the second floor of the Bonner County Courthouse to 320 N. First Ave. The new location is the former office space of Dr. Dittemore. A new phone number, 263-5159, has been assigned to the office.

STUDENT TEACHING BEGINS
Two Sandpoint students at Eastern Washington State College at Cheney, Wash., Anders P. Raiha and Susan E. McConnaughey, have begun spring quarter student teaching assignments. Miss McConnaughey, daughter of H.M. McConnaughey, a drama major, is at Ferris High School, Spokane. Raiha, son of Mr. and Mrs. Antti Raiha, an industrial technology major, is at Lewis and Clark High School, also in Spokane.

April 17, 1922 – BATTERY C VET WEDS
The marriage of Rex I. Timblin and Miss Mahala Nettlingham took place Wednesday at the home of the bride’s parents, near Colburn. The groom is an ex-serviceman who saw 18 months’ service in France with Battery C, 146th field artillery. Both he and his bride have a host of friends who wish them well.

NEW LACLEDE COTTAGES AND BUNGALOWS
Plans have been drawn for eight new houses to be built in the near future in Laclede for the use of the employes (sic) at the sawmill. Work was completed on two cottages which A.C. White recently moved into Laclede from the site of his summer home near the river. A big new bungalow will be built on the grounds from which his old summer cottage was removed.

VOLUNTEERS IMPROVE ROAD
The roads between Sagle and the Prichard and Townsend ranches, embracing the worst stretches in this section, are much improved as the result of volunteer work on the part of neighborhood residents. Messrs. Quass, Townsend, Reed, Hill and Webster put in a full day on the roads with drags and stump-pullers and also removed large stones.

CRACKSMEN BLOW RAILROAD DEPOT
Cracksmen, no trace of whom has been discovered, Saturday night blew the safe in Clarksfork’s Northern Pacific depot and got away with $35. Officers are baffled, as no trace of the yeggmen has been found.
