It's time to get into the political game

| June 19, 2022 1:00 AM

All too often I hear “I’m just not into politics.” Well, if you’re sitting on the sideline, it’s time to get in the game.

In the Bonner County Republican primary:

52% voted for Janice McGeachin, who openly courted white nationalists and militia members.

62% voted for Priscilla Giddings, who revealed the name of a rape victim and supported the rapist.

60% voted for Dorothy Moon to head our elections, yet she claimed Canadians voted in the 2020 election (when the border was closed).

60% voted for Branden Durst to head our schools, yet he wants to shut down public schools.

56% voted for Scott Herndon, an abortion abolitionist, who believe a 12-year-old rape victim should be forced to have a child, even if her life is in danger.

47% voted for Todd Engel, who aimed a loaded AR-15 at federal agents.

Is this truly representative of our communities? Are we satisfied to be led by AR-wielding white-nationalists more concerned about eliminating all taxes and shuttering public schools, than growing the economy, funding infrastructure and supporting our way of life?

I feel that most of us that have lived here a while, or grew up here, didn’t believe this despotism could actually take hold of our community, but the results of the Republican primary have proved it’s time to get informed and get involved.
