What precedent will negative campaigns set?

I’m disheartened about the dishonest and disrespectful postcards that were mailed out by Steve Herndon during the District 1 state senate primary election. I am further disheartened and alarmed that these negative and ugly attack ads were evidently successful.

Is this hateful and ugly campaign strategy the future for Bonner and Boundary counties? Do the majority of citizens in North Idaho approve of dishonest campaigns that are primarily funded from out-of-state lobbyists? We’re not talking policy or positions on relevant issues. We’re talking about campaigns that are intentionally and consistently focused on distortions and untruths.

What precedent does this type of campaign set for North Idaho? What impact will it have for future elections. What is the antidote for this poison?
