North Idaho Philharmonia announces benefit concert

| March 19, 2022 1:00 AM

Music has the unique ability to cross cultural divides. On Friday, March 25, at the Panida Theater in Sandpoint, Jan Pellant, artistic director for the North Idaho Philharmonia, is hoping his concert can do just that.

Several Philharmonia players, as well as the director and musicians at Music Conservatory of Sandpoint, are of European heritage.

“Our hearts go out to the people in Ukraine,” Pellant said, “and with this concert together we can raise funds to help.”

A portion of concert proceeds will be gifted to the Ukrainian Red Cross to help civilians during this difficult time and extreme humanitarian crisis. Patrons will have the opportunity to give while attending the concert and are encouraged to do so beforehand by visiting sandpointconservatory.org/northidahophil. Contributions also may be made directly at redcross.org.ua/donate.

Nestled in the Idaho Panhandle may seem isolating at times, and Pellant is motivated that his “diverse group of musicians, along with great music, can collectively encourage others to join in with support.”

Friday evening begins with a pre-concert talk at 7:00 p.m., followed by Between Earth and Heaven at 7:30 p.m. This classical feast features a 31-piece orchestra with guest artists Melody Puller and Matthew Goodrich on duo pianos. Patrons young and old are invited to bask in the sounds of Mozart, Saint-Saëns, and Dvorak.

General admission tickets are $15 for students and $30 for adults. Advanced purchase is preferred, and tickets are available now at sandpointconservatory.org/northidahophil, at the conservatory, or at the door.

NIPH, in collaboration with Music Conservatory of Sandpoint and other high-level performing arts institutions, is focused on orchestral and chamber music literature. Annual programming features diverse styles across musical periods with an emphasis on classical music.
