MOSCOW — The Sandpoint tennis team hoisted team trophies for both the boys and girls at the Class 4A district 1 tennis tournament on Friday at Moscow High School.

"I'm just so incredibly proud of these guys," Sandpoint tennis coach Kent Anderson said. "They're just a great group and just a joy to be around."

The Bulldogs will be taking seven athletes to the state tournament.

Three Sandpoint tennis players took first place honors. Neva Reseska faced off against teammate Maise Brazill in the finals at girls' singles with Reseska coming away victorious 6-3, 6-2.

"It was fun to watch," Anderson said. "It was a really good match with super-long points. They hit very similar. It's going to be nice having both of them at state."

Olivia Petruso and Denali Terry notched a first-place finish at number one doubles with a three-set victory.

"It was a two-hour long match," Anderson said. "Their style was just so much different from (Olivia and Denali). Everyone was watching the match. It was more like a WWE match.

Tyler Korn and Cayden Kindred earned a state berth with a first-place finish at boys doubles.

They won their match 6-0, 6-4, 6-2.

"They lost the first match 6-0," Anderson said. "They managed to find their rhythm towards the end to win the match."

Evan Wiley was the final state qualifier with a second-place finish in boys' singles. He lost 6-4, 6-4.

"He was hanging around during every single point," Anderson said. "Evan stepped up and had his chances to win in that one."

Next up for the Sandpoint tennis team will be the Idaho Class 4A state tournament on Friday, May 20 at the Boise Racquet Club.
