BOISE — Tyler Korn and Cayden Kindred kept up with the normal, by winning its first match of the Class 4A Idaho state tennis tournament in extra sets.

They defeated Wood River’s Gavin Beste, and Chase Schwartz, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.

The duo remains in contention for a state championship. They’re currently in the semi finals and will face off against Dawson Belnap and Jamison Lemon from Bonneville tomorrow at 8 a.m.

"They're on fire right now," Sandpoint High School tennis coach Kent Anderson said. "Their serves are on point and they play with so much power.”

Neva Reseska is the lone Sandpoint girls tennis player left in the tournament.

The sophomore started off with a near clean sweep of Burley’s Katri Beck, 6-0, 6-1.

In her second round matchup, however, she got swept by Bishop Kelly’s Addison Seehawer, 6-0, 6-0.

Reseska won her final match of the day to stay alive on the consolation side of the bracket with a win over Burley’s Sadie Cook, 6-0, 6-3.

Reseska almost had a district championship rematch with Maise Brazill, but she fell in her final match of the day to Ridgeview’s Erin Smith, 6-1, 6-0.

Brazil ended the day 1-2, losing her first and last match of the day. She won her second match against Wood River’s Maddox Nickum 6-1, 6-0.

"The last girl she lost to hit just like her," Anderson said. "There were some long long 'never miss Maise' types of points."

Olivia Petruso and Denali Terry lost back-to-back matches which eliminated them from the state tournament.

After winning their first match of the day, the duo fell to Bishop Kelly’s Maggie Scanlan and Olivia Reifschneider, 6-2, 6-4.

They lost their final match of the day to Canyon Ridge’s Frances Roberts and Madeleine Roberts in extra sets 7-5, 6-1, 6-4.

"Those are our senior captains and they're going to be missed like crazy," Anderson said. "It was an emotional battle for them out there today but their good now. They're going to be super hard to replace next year."
