Letter was outdated the day it was sent in

Mr. Myers' letter to the editor was outdated the day he sent it. President Biden has recently approved $800 million in new military assistance to Ukraine, including artillery and helicopters –the latest in a series of arms packages valued at $2.6 billion since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February.

This aid has helped ensure that Putin has failed in his initial war aims to conquer and control the country. And Ukrainian forces may well have used some of this equipment to disable Russia’s most powerful warship.

In addition, the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure and Jobs act signed by Biden in November is already earmarked to help build badly-needed bridges and repair others in our area. The infrastructure bill was passed in Biden’s first year in office after Trump promised -- and then failed to propose -- any infrastructure bill in four years of office.

As for our southern border, Trump’s millions spent on a “border wall" and use of our armed forces to install it has done little to stop drug trafficking across the border.

And recently, Texas’ GOP governor plunged his state's border into gridlock when his traffic clogging immigration order backed up commercial trucks bringing goods from Mexico. (Last year Mexico shipped more goods to the U.S. than any other country except China.)

The governor has since repealed his order.
