James John Hazen, 92

James John Hazen, 92, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

He will be laid to rest in Pennsylvania with his wife, Alice Hazen.

Jim was born March 22, 1930, in Ellwood City, Pa., to Ernest and Grace Hazen. He attended Penn State University, where he competed in gymnastics. He served his country in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War.

He married Alice Reese on July 17, 1958, in Virginia and they raised a daughter, Stacey. He taught health and physical education in New Wilmington, Pa., before moving to Libby, Mont., to pursue a career in trail maintenance with the U.S. Forest Service. He moved to Sandpoint in 2015.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling the West with Alice.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Hazen of Pinedale, Wyo.; brother Dennis (Barb) Hazen of Waynesboro, Pa.; nieces Missy Hazen of Pleasant Gap, Pa., Paula Hazen and Cyndi Hazen; sister-in-law Dorothy Hazen; and Matthew (Krista) Hazen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice Reese Hazen, brother Leonard Hazen and grandsons Jared and Benjamin Holmes.
