Sandpoint Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces in association with the Sandpoint track and field team invites you to participate in the Youth Track and Field Program.

Katherine Richardson, who is spearheading the program, along with the Sandpoint High School track and field athletes and coaching staff, will teach the events and conduct the competitions.

The focus will be on sprints, block starts, discus, long jump, high jump, shot put, hurdles, relays and middle distance for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade.

“It is a great way for any athlete across a broad spectrum of sports to learn fundamentals about body movement, speed, agility, and the track and field event fundamentals,” Richardson said.

The program will be held at the Sandpoint High School track starting March 20 and runs until May 3 from 6-7 p.m. Participants can choose one day to attend each week, either Monday or Wednesday, and will be able to showcase their skills over the course of three track and field meets: April 14, April 28 and May 5.

Each division will have limited participation based on the availability of coaches and volunteers.

You can register on the Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces website under the “Program Registration” tab or go to https://secure.rec1.com/ID/city-of-sandpoint/catalog and select “Youth Sports.”

Registration opened Jan. 28 and is conducted on a first come first serve basis.
