KELLOGG – The Schweitzer SOARS (Special Olympics Alpine Racing Squad) had a great Special Olympics Winter Games on Saturday, March 18.

Brandon Beck, Race Barrett, Campbell Wyman and Oliver Bond made up the athletes who represented and competed for SOARS in Kellogg. The four individuals took home tons of hardware by dominating the slopes at Silver Mountain.

Race Barrett took home two gold medals (Slalom:19.79, and Super G:28.90); Brandon Beck capitalized in his races with a gold and silver medal (Slalom:22.05, and Super G:32.51); Oliver Bond, who is new to Alpine racing, took home two gold medals (Slalom: 25.02 and Super G:33.25); and Campbell Wyman was awarded a gold and silver medal respectively (Slalom:23.24, and Super G:35.51).

“We knew we had a great group of gentlemen to represent Sandpoint for the winter games. They worked hard during training and it showed at the games,” head coach Melissa Wyman said. “Race had the fastest times on the mountain; Brandon was focused; Oliver was a firecracker on the slopes; Campbell left it all out there. We are very excited about the future of the Special Olympics Winter Games.”
