You didn't specify a timeline, Winston

| May 25, 2023 1:00 AM

Winston Churchill is purported to have said, “You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, after they have exhausted all the other possibilities.”

No rational adult thought the solution to soaring crime in this country was to defund the police, yet it was tried in some of our cities with disastrous and predictable results. There’s nothing wrong with trying different approaches to a problem, but did we have to try this one to find out it wouldn't work? Who knew?

The qualifier in the previous paragraph was “no rational adult,” which excludes those in the shallow end of the gene pool, criminals and people like George Soros, whose definition of success is the destruction of this country. It’s a coalition of the stupid led by the malicious, and they’re winning.

The solution seems obvious: Hire more cops, screen them well, pay them well and throw the thugs in jail. But returning to a solution that worked, or at least one that worked better than defunding cops, will not happen with Soros pulling the strings. Instead, this hare-brained scheme will be replaced by an even worse hare-brained scheme. How about disarming the cops and arming the criminals? We won’t know if it will work until we try it, right?

I hope Churchill was right, that we will eventually do the right thing. But how long is it going to take? You didn’t specify a timeline, Winston.
