CLARK FORK – Washington Elementary students filled the air with screams of joy and excitement after the second-place team was announced as they realized that they had taken home first place and started their team victory lap around the track.

Seven elementary schools traveled to Clark Fork on Friday, May 26 to compete in the 11th annual Clark Fork Elementary Track Meet. The seven elementary schools that attended were Washington, Farmin-Stidwell, Northside, Kootenai, Hope, Southside, and Sagle.

“This meet is a great way for students to learn about the town of Clark Fork and what we have to offer. It is a big deal for our community here,” CFHS athletic director KC MacDonald said.

At the entrance to the stadium, staff members and high school students stood behind a poster which explained what makes Clark Fork special. The poster also shared some fun facts about the school, prompting many curious elementary students to stop by to learn more.

The track and field meet, also known as “Clark Fork Field Day” gives students an opportunity to tune into their competitive side, mingle with students from other schools, and burn off some energy. Students from third through sixth grade compete in the broad jump, softball toss, a cross country mile and half-mile, and various sprinting events and relays.

All CFHS students volunteered their time in order for the meet to run smoothly. Some students served as ushers and directed students to their events, others served as timekeepers, and some took photos and videos of the athletes.

“This meet is really something special,” principal Phil Kemink said. “We are already looking forward to hosting it again next year.”

The meet is always held near the end of the school year and all LPOSD schools usually attend.
