PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Sandpoint falls in showdown with CDA
Coeur d'Alene 76, Sandpoint 55
COEUR d'ALENE — Sandpoint High sophomore Jordyn Tomco led all scorers with 22 points, but the Lady Bulldogs fell 76-55 to the Lady Vikings in a 6A/5A Inland Empire League showdown at Coeur d'Alene High on Tuesday.
Coeur d'Alene got out to an early 20-5 lead after one quarter of play, and after a 16-0 run to start the second half, saw their lead climb to 36 points, 56-20.
"Credit to Coeur d'Alene for how they shot tonight; they showed that at the end of the season they can be one of the top teams in the state and have a good chance of playing for another state title," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said.
The Lady Bulldogs chipped away after the run. Sophomore Livia Driggs had eight of her nine points late in the third quarter, hitting two 3-pointers. Senior Demi Driggs added 11 points and six rebounds, sophomore Brecken Mire eight points and six assists while Tomco, who had three 3-pointers of her own, hauled in six rebounds in addition to her 22 points.
"We had our moments and I'm pleased with how we played our last 12 minutes of the game," coach Love said. "We did a good job with pace, spacing the floor, and started to get going offensively... we have to use this as a learning experience, and I know the girls will so that we can get to where we want to be."
Sophomore Summer Loutzenhiser added a 3-pointer, junior Jetta Thaete two points for Sandpoint (3-2), which will look to right the ship on Monday when they travel to West Valley of Spokane.
Sandpoint's originally scheduled home matchup with Lewiston set for this Saturday will be rescheduled.

CLARK FORK — Senior Hannah Thompson had a season-high 12 points for the Lady Cats in a 2A Scenic Idaho Conference loss to the visiting Lady Miners on Tuesday.
Junior Piper Scarlett added nine points, junior Kathi Rupp six points and 15 rebounds and was a disruption on the defensive side of the ball.
"Our defense was better tonight and we showed some signs of improvement," Clark Fork High head coach Chris Cavanaugh said. "We're still struggling to make open shots and score the ball. I have to better as well — called a few timeouts in bad spots and a couple of substitutions could've happened a little sooner."
Freshman Keira Gannon had three points, senior Aliyah Leadbetter and junior Priscilla Mayorga two each for Clark Fork (0-5), which hosts Noxon on Thursday.
