YOUTH SPORTS: Priest River MS wrestling repeats as district champions

Priest River Middle School Wrestling

PRIEST RIVER — Six Spartans won their weight classes and the Priest River Middle School wrestling team won the 2A-4A District 1 Championship held this past Saturday at Priest River High.

Justin Hopkins (86 pounds), Tadhg McLaimtaig (98), Royce Redinger (104), Elijah Camp (110), Gunner Neil (185) and Branson Stokes (215) all won their respective weight classes while Rusty Caudill (86), Gideon Rapier (92), Cael Schneider (98), Austin Schuler (116), Nicholas Grow (185) and Brady Laffoon (215) all placed second.

Torin McLaimtaig (74), Wyatt Fenton (80) and Wyatt Vanaville (160) all picked up third-place finishes for Priest River, which scored 238 points, 17 more than runner-up Timberlake.

Sandpoint Middle School Wrestling

SANDPOINT — Maxx Watson (110 pounds) and Frank Wilson (160) both won individual titles to lead the Sandpoint Middle School wrestling team to a fifth-place finish at the 5A-6A District 1 Championship held this past Saturday at SMS.

Axel Jones (130) and Dominic Ratigan (160) were second, Reed Corey third (116) and Tyson Symons (98), Jacob Neff (116), Paden Hinds (144) and Isaac Rasor (HWT) fourth for the Bullpups, which scored 194 points total.

Sandpoint Junior Varsity Wrestling

SANDPOINT — At the annual JV Blizzard tournament held this past Saturday at Sandpoint High, six different Bulldogs won their respective weight class.

Jason Symons (120B), Conner Brown (126C), Colter Cates (150A), Jensen Sheetz (165A) and Charlie Becker (175C) all won by pin in their championship matches while Gage Martin (144C) won by technical fall (17-1).

Placing second were Carter Church (132C), Liam Bowen (144A) and Eli Taylor (157C), third were Daniel Holman (165B) and Mason McLain (175A), and fourth were Coleman Inge (157A), Alan Butcher (165A), Camden Funderburg (165B), Liam Clarke (175B) and Zach Beers (215B).

Clark Fork Middle School Basketball 

CLARK FORK — The Clark Fork Middle School A and B boys basketball teams recently started their season this past Friday with home games against Troy of Montana.

The 'A' Team fell 45-22 while the 'B' team fell 38-34. Mattias Raynor led the 'A' team with 11 points, which included a made 3-pointer, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists. The 'B team was led by Jaden Caldwell, who had 19 points, which included a made 3-pointer, nine rebounds, seven steals, three assists and two blocks.

A total of 19 boys came out for the team this year and will be coached by first-year head coach Adam Noble.

Both teams, as well as the middle school Lady Cats, return to action tonight against Wallace.
