Sandpoint man fatally struck by car
EASTON, Wash. — A 35-year-old man from Sandpoint died Dec. 25 after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 90 in Washington.
According to a Washington State Patrol memo, Andrei Cibotari was in a chain-up area on the right shoulder of the westbound lane when a driver of a car lost control and struck him.
Cibotari was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passengers of the car were not injured.
The driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol, and Washington State Patrol said the incident was caused by speed too fast for the conditions.
Charges against the driver are pending.
An online fundraiser to support Cibotari's wife and children was launched the morning after the incident. As of 6 p.m. Dec. 26, more than 600 donors have contributed a total of over $60,000.
