Many summer adult art classes hosted by Pend Oreille Arts Council’s Joyce Dillon Studio, for the most part, are better described as workshops as they are completed in one day. At each of the classes, students will complete a project during the session.

Adults of none, some, or a lot of artistic talent are encouraged to attend. Instructors are well-versed in their skills and media, and each class is entertaining as well as educating. For more details about each class and the registration deadlines, go to www.artinsandpoint.org.

A class in weaving is one of the exceptions to the workshop rule. This 4-week class will be held Tuesdays starting July 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan Rust will teach this class that will teach all students how to create a textured wall hanging.

Making beautiful glass windchimes is the focus of Julie Ellis’ workshops. The first one will be held Wednesday, July 10, and the second Wednesday, July 24. Both classes start at noon and end at 4 p.m.

Sculptor and metal worker, Dave Gonzo will be teaching students how to forge copper and steel ladles Thursday, July 11, and Friday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then on Friday, July 19, Dave will be teaching students how to forge ornate hooks. That class will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Monday, July 15, Hillary Dunlap will teach students photo embroidery. This medium is a combination of photo transfer techniques and needlework that produces unusual and extraordinary results. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.

Jenni Barry will once again teach Kimekomi on Friday, July 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. Kimekomi is a Japanese medium that involves creating a picture out of tucked fabric. No sewing skills are necessary to produce a masterpiece.

By popular demand, T Kurtz returns to the Joyce Dillon Studio to teach students “Learn to Love Pastels” on Tuesdays, July 23 and 30. Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. She will then offer a follow-up class, “Pastel Plein Air.” It will be Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon throughout the month of August.

Brand new to the Joyce Dillon Studio is Sadey Vogel who will be teaching a "Macrame Plant Holder Class" on Aug. 1, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Many other classes are already scheduled for August and dates beyond, please check www.artinsandpoint.org for more information. Except for the metal forging classes which are held at Dave Gonzo’s studio, classes are held at Joyce Dillon Studio at the rear of Pend Oreille Arts Council Gallery and Office, 313 N. Second Ave. in Sandpoint.

Pend Oreille Arts Council facilitates visual and performing arts programs in Bonner County. Besides facilitating performing arts events including the Ovations program in local schools, POAC facilitates art education for all ages. The Kaleidoscope and Expressions programs is geared toward school-age students while the Joyce Dillon Studio and the Art of Life program at the senior center involves adults in the art of creativity.
