Find the perfect gifts at PSNI’s Christmas Market
Before you start scratching your head trying to figure out the perfect gift for the hard-to-buy-for people on your holiday list, be sure to stop by Panhandle Special Needs, Inc.’s Greenhouse Christmas Market.
The market, taking place at 1424 N. Boyer in Sandpoint. Opening on Monday, Dec. 2, and then daily until Sunday, Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the multitude of diverse items for sale are sure to help you fill those stockings and more than likely help you find a treasure for yourself as well.
“We do not duplicate vendors, so each booth is unique,” Kim Derr, PSNI’s work services manager and coordinator of the market, said. “This year we have 45 purveyors of just about everything including repurposed vintage art, jewelry, stained glass, paper lanterns, wood pens, Grinch slippers and a multitude of food products like jams and jellies, fudge, honey, coffee and vinegar.”
Derr said she couldn’t name all the products off the top of her head, but she added that there will be hand painted wine glasses and bottles at one booth and charcuterie cutting boards at another. From found art to paintings and photography, there are just too many clever potential presents to list. You must come in to check it out.
Panhandle Special Needs, Inc. serves our community’s developmentally disabled population. The clients are involved in the Christmas Market in many ways. They help Derr set up and manage the booths, they restock the merchandise during the week and clean up at the end of each day. Several clients are on hand to help patrons carry out their purchases.
The goal for each client is to help them reach their potential. Through Work Services, they’re taught how to become more independent, find employment and become an asset to the community. PSNI's funding is limited, and the Christmas Market is a relatively small source of income which helps them continue these badly needed programs.
