Opening primaries means more choice for voters
The opposition to the Idaho Open Primaries Act is out in full force with snarky, mean presentations. The misinformation has not deterred me from voting for Proposition 1.
Opening the primary elections to everyone regardless of party affiliation will give more choices for voters because the top four candidates will move to the general election ballot. I especially like the idea that the candidates will be more attuned to all the Idaho voters, not just their party platform silo.
In the general election the ranked choice voting or instant runoff system will ensure that the winner has a majority of votes. As soon as a candidate gets over 50% of the votes that candidate will be the winner. The winner will have the favor of broad consensus giving more voice to voters.
What I appreciate about the Idahoans for Open Primaries organization is that it is a coalition of many organizations like the Mormon Women for Ethical Government, Veterans for Idaho Voters, Republicans for Open Primaries, Reclaim Idaho and other supporters. Truly, it is an Idaho grassroots, broad-reaching coalition of volunteers that got enough signatures to qualify the initiative. Join with hundreds of thousands of voters. Vote for Proposition 1.
