Full caption: Sandpoint Middle School's Zayda Ambauen and Veronica Kramer faced off in the championship of the 3rd Annual Jim Parsons Jr. Wood Racquet Tournament on Wednesday at Travers Park. Ambauen ultimately won the 32-player draw, which included both boys and girls on the middle school tennis team. For her efforts, Ambauen earned a new 6-racquet tennis bag after winning a 7-4 tiebreaker victory in the finals. Jim Parsons, who passed away in 2022 at 91 years of age and was known as the godfather of Sandpoint tennis, posthumously donated dozens of vintage wood racquets to the high school tennis team. In honor of his life and love for tennis, the team hosts the wood racquet tournament every year. "I can’t say enough good things about this year’s middle school team," Sandpoint High head coach Kent Anderson said. "They work hard, are incredibly dedicated, and are a joy to coach. They truly appreciated the opportunity to compete with vintage wood racquets and experience the long, rich history of tennis in Sandpoint."
