LOU’S AUTO PARTS SETS GRAND OPENING
Saturday, Sandpoint’s pioneer auto parts house, Lou’s Auto Parts, will have a grand opening to celebrate its recent move to new quarters at 506 Oak, just west of the Union Pacific railroad track. Mayor Lester Brown will officially cut the ribbon at 10:30 a.m. and radio KSPT will be broadcasting live from Lou’s. Mr. and Mrs. Lou Rahskopf and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reed are owners of the company. The oldest parts house in Sandpoint, Lou’s has been in continuous operation since 1944 when Rahskopf purchased the firm. Since 1949, Lou’s has been located in the McFarland Building at the corner of Second and Main. Reed and Norm Rosenberger last summer bought the old Merchants Transfer and Storage property on Oak from Henry Holien and completely renovated it. The exterior is now sheeted in a bright yellow metal with a rough wood facade facing Oak. Besides the Rahskopfs and Reeds, the staff includes Dinah Raye Withers, Bill Lawson, Chuck Becker, Ken Johnson, and Dan Kirkpatrick.

HALLOWE’EN FUN IS KIWANIS OBJECTIVE
Supervised fun on Halloween for Sandpoint’s youngsters, instead of destructive vandalism, is a Kiwanis club project in charge of Hudson Nieman, Bud Moon and John Nelson, assisted by the senior Boy Scouts. There will be traditional “trick or treat” on Sunday, Oct. 30, when kids will be free to visit neighborhood homes, but no further observance of this nature is authorized after Sunday. A parade will open Halloween festivities Monday, with participants assembling at the bandstand park across from the Methodist church at 6:30 p.m. The line of march will be east on Cedar, south on First and west on Pine to the Sandpoint high school [on Euclid], where prizes will be given for the best costumes in three age divisions. A dance in the gym will then be held for the teen agers, and the younger children will be entertained with movies in the auditorium. Window decorating contest entrants should arrange with a downtown merchant to draw a picture in soap on the window and then sign their name on it Sunday evening so judging can be done early Monday.
