Oct. 31, 1974 – METAL DETECTOR READY

The Sandpoint Fire Department will have a metal detector available to examine Halloween goodies, said Fire Chief Wade Brown. The detector will be available all evening and tomorrow. If parents are concerned about any of the kids’ treats, they can be examined free of charge at City Hall. All city radio-equipped vehicles will be out tonight to back up police, protect tykes and reduce vandalism.

PLAID ATTIC OPENS

Clothes, clothes and more clothes, for every member of the family can be found in the Plaid Attic which holds its opening on Friday. Co-owners Patty McGovern and Bobette Dowling’s business is in two cheery rooms on the Farmin Building third floor, with entry next to The Bootery. All merchandise is sold on a consignment basis and the owners stress that all clothing must be freshly washed or dry cleaned. They also have beautiful driftwood items consigned by Mrs. Mae McCormick and have on display homemade quilts, tole paintings, shoes, handbags and an assortment of gift items. Business hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Oct. 31, 1949 – SHS HONOR STUDENTS

The Sandpoint high school honor roll is now based on a numerical grade system as used at the U of I. A student must have a grade value of 3.5 to make the regular honor roll and 4.0 to make the high honor roll, making it harder than in former years. SAFEWAY TO BUILD BIG NEW STORE HERE

Safeway Stores, Inc. has opened bids for a new store building at the SE corner of Second and Alder across from the postoffice. It will have four times the floor space of the current store alongside Penney’s.
