Price Rite Meats, 823 Main, a neighborhood tradition in Sandpoint for over 60 years, has a new front. Bill Martin, the store owner for the last 15 years, has been improving the outside of the building one side a year for the last four years. The building was originally “just a shack,” said Martin. “By fixing things up, it’s helped improve the neighborhood too.” The new storefront is constructed of brick and shakes.

April 13, 1950 – CENSUS IS PROGRESSING
Despite problems, the 1950 census is progressing as scheduled, said crew leader Mrs. Kathryn M. Anderson. Some rural workers use snowshoes to reach families far back in the woods, while others walk as much as 12 miles a day to “count noses” on widely scattered farms. One enumerator’s car was mired down in mud six times in one day. Enumerators and their assigned areas are: Mrs. H. Jones and Mrs. Virginnia Hensley, Priest River and outskirts; Mrs. Maxine Brackendorf, Coolin; Mrs. Maiden Leuer, Nordman; Ronald L. McDonald, Falls Ranger station; Leo J. Elton, Spirit Lake; Ernest Bauer, Thama Ferry; Mrs. Lillian Butler, Hope; Mrs. Leonora Graves, Laclede; Mrs. Mildred Franklin, Kootenai; Leslie Dahlberg, Sagle; John Anderson, Gamlin Lake; Mrs. Irene Daugherty, Clark Fork; Mrs. Al Coleman, Mrs. Fern Zordell and Mrs. Mae Dreier, Sandpoint. Two weeks were allowed for the city enumeration and a month for the rural districts.
