Sandpoint 11, Moscow 1

MOSCOW — Fisher Dail and Caden Martz posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score in No. 2 boys doubles and the Bulldogs won three third-set tiebreakers to defeat the Bears by a sizable margin in a 5A Inland Empire League match held Tuesday at Moscow High.

Sandpoint High head coach Kent Anderson said the final score doesn't reflect how close the match actually was, noting that some of his players really had to claw their way to victory in what was a hard-fought affair by both sides.

In girls singles, sophomore Pepper Rickert also posted a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory, her sixth perfect game of season in as many contests, while Bella Bailey was challenged and responded with a gutsy 10-3 third set win to take down her opponent.

In girls doubles, Aubrey Knowles and Amelia Poulson picked up a win in three sets to remain undefeated on the season while Hannah Fisher and Lily Evans breezed through their match, using great net play, excellent teamwork and strong ground strokes to set the tone.

In boys singles, Jacob Dawson, according to coach Anderson, was relentless and didn’t allow his opponent to get any momentum during their match, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win in both sets.

"He kept the ball deep in the court and attacked at every opportunity," coach Anderson said.

Nathan Duke took down his opponent in three sets and Joey Allen won in straight sets to pull off the sweep in the category.

Also in doubles play, Ethan Ballard and Brennan Johnson won in straight sets in the No. 1 boys doubles position while pairs Avery Thornton and Lane Harris and Colby Dyk and Morgan Harris both won in straight sets in mixed doubles to help the Bulldogs clinch victory.

Sandpoint faced Lewiston on Wednesday and will travel to Coeur d'Alene today for another matchup.
