COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Williams throws school record 18 strikeouts

Evan Williams, Tabor College Baseball

A 2021 graduate of Sandpoint High, Evan fired in a career-high 18 strikeouts, a new single-game school record, across a seven-inning complete game, giving up just five hits, two walks and one earned run in the Blue Jays' 20-1 road conference win over Southwestern College (Winfield, Kan.) this past Friday, April 18. The hard-throwing righty was named the Hillsboro Ford Male PowerJay of the Week for his efforts. On the season, his ERA now sits at 5.48 across 65.2 innings to go along with 96 strikeouts, which leads the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and ranks as tied for fifth in the entire NAIA. Tabor College (25-19) hosts Friends University (Wichita, Kan.) today and Evangel University (Springfield, Mo.) for a three-game series starting Friday, April 25, and ending Saturday, April 26, for their regular and conference finale.

Forest Ambridge, Southern Virginia University Lacrosse

A 2023 graduate of Sandpoint High, Forest dished out his sixth and seventh assists of the season, picked up two groundballs, and won three of his 10 faceoffs in a 23-15 home conference loss to Methodist University (Fayetteville, N.C.) this past Saturday, April 19. The midfielder has seen action in 15 of 16 games this season and will look to lead the Knights (8-8) when they host Greensboro College (Greensboro, N.C.) for the first round of the USA South Conference tournament Saturday, April 26.

Luke Butler, Pacific Lutheran University Golf

A 2023 graduate of Priest River High, Luke finished with a 16-over-par across two rounds to place tied for 37th at the Northwest Conference Championships held this past Sunday, April 20, and Monday, April 21, at the Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Ore. The Priest Lake native shot a 7-over-par 79 to go along with nine pars and a birdie in the first round and a 9-over-par 81 second round, carding another nine pars and a birdie.

Jack Zimmerman, Lassen College Baseball

A 2023 graduate of Sandpoint High, Jack went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks in the Cougars' series finale 12-8 loss to Feather River (Quincy, Calif.) this past Saturday, April 19. One of Lassen's most consistent bats, he also had a single and run scored in a 7-1 second game win during the three-game series. Across 35 games played, the lefty outfielder is now slashing .321/.449/.476 to go along with 27 hits, including 13 doubles, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored and six stolen bases. Lassen (24-13-1) will host the College of the Siskiyous (Weed, Calif.) for a two-games series starting Thursday, April 24, and ending Friday, April 25, for their regular season and conference finale.

Rebecca Sedbrook, Viterbo University Track & Field

A 2024 graduate of Forrest Bird Charter who competed for Priest River High, Rebecca threw a new all-time personal best of 35 feet, 7.75 inches in the shot put to finish 18th out of 31 competitors at the Phil Esten Challenge held Thursday, April 17 and Friday, April 18 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Veterans Memorial Stadium. The former 2A (now 3A) state medalist also set a new collegiate best of 101 feet, 2 inches in the discus and finished 14th out of 21 at the Mississippi River Rumble held Saturday, April 5 at the University of Dubuque's (Iowa) Chalmers Field. The V-Hawks will compete next at the University of Minnesota Invitational today and at the Drake Relays (Des Moines, Iowa) today, Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26.

Brandon Casey, University of Montana Football

A 2020 graduate of Sandpoint High, Brandon was recently inducted into the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honors Society Class of 2025, announced recently by the NFF. The honor recognizes players from all divisions of college football who maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 throughout their careers while excelling on the field of play as a starter or significant contributor throughout the previous season. Brandon was one of 16 Grizzles to receive such an honor, which is a new program record and the most of any team in the Big Sky. Only seven FCS programs, including those from Ivy League schools, were able to induct that many players this year. 

Elisheva Davis, Spokane CC Track & Field

A 2023 graduate of Priest River High, Elisheva sprung to a new all-time personal best in the long jump, finishing fourth out of eight competitors with a mark of 16 feet, 1 inch at the Whitworth Twilight meet held this past Thursday, April 17. The former 2A (now 3A) state qualifier and the Sasquatch return to action this Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, at Washington State University's Cougar Classic.

Sawyer Treadaway, Montana State University Lacrosse

A 2024 graduate of Sandpoint High, Sawyer scooped up three groundballs and recorded his first collegiate assist in a 28-4 win over the University of Wyoming this past Saturday, April 19. The former All-State defender and Montana State (9-3) will look to avenge a 16-15 loss to Air Force earlier this season Friday, April 25, when they host the Falcons for the first round of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Division II playoffs at Dobbie Lambert Intramural Turf.

Alex David, Rocky Mountain College Track & Field

A 2024 graduate of Sandpoint High, Alex finished eighth out of 16 competitors in the discus throw with a mark of 100 feet, 1 inch at the Trudnowski Open held Thursday, April 17, and Friday, April 18, at Carroll College's Vigilante Stadium. The former 4A (now 5A) state qualifier also set a new personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 96 feet, 11 inches. The Battlin' Bears will compete next at the University of Montana Open on Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26.
