Event to raise scholarship funds

The Newport Creative District will host a "paint and party" event next month to support young artists in the area. Proceeds from the March 20 event will help fund the Visual Arts Scholarship offered by Evergreen Art Association.

For the past 43 years, the Evergreen Art Association has awarded $500 to graduating seniors from area schools or home school for continuing education in the field of visual arts, including fine art, commercial art, computer graphics, website design and photography. This year, EAA officials said the scholarship was increased to $1,000.

The fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. March 20 at Newport High School. All students, families and community members are welcome. No experience is needed to take part in the event.

"Make art for the joy of it," Clare Clark, founder of Paint & Party Events, said.

Tickets to the event are available for $40 per person on the Newport Creative District's website at newportcreativedistrict.com/events.

At the event, step-by-step instructions and supplies will be provided by Clark and a light meal will be provided by the Evergreen Art Association.

The Newport Creative District, a non-profit organization, has a mission to connect creativity, economy and culture across community. Check out the Newport Creative District website or Facebook page for other upcoming events.
