PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Priest River shoots past Kellogg to advance to title match
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Priest River 52, Kellogg 28
PRIEST RIVER — Desi Humphrey contributes in a plethora of ways on the court, but most fans know her for her consistent 3-point shooting — and that was no different on Saturday night.
The Priest River High senior netted a game-high 19 points, 13 in the second half, and hit four 3-pointers as the host No. 2 Lady Spartans punched their ticket to the 3A Central Idaho League district tournament championship match with a victory over the No. 3 Lady Wildcats.
In addition to her 19 points, Humphrey also registered a team-high seven rebounds, four steals and dished out three assists.
Senior Paityn Yount supplied 13 points, including two 3-pointers, while fellow senior Lizzie McCracken scored nine points and had three assists for Priest River, which outscored Kellogg 30-9 in the second half after leading just 22-19 at intermission.
It's the Lady Spartans' third victory over the Lady Wildcats this year — the 24-point margin being the largest of the three games. Before this season, their last victory over Kellogg dated back to 2017.
Priest River (14-6) will travel to Grangeville on Monday for the district championship match. The winner of that game advances to state while the loser will play a consolation match against the winner of Kellogg/Orofino for an opportunity to head to a state play-in game.
