Feb. 11, 1975 – YOUTHS FOUND SAFE
Two local youths who became lost Monday while attempting to ski from Schweitzer Basin to Baldy Mountain were rescued early Tuesday by members of the Winter Riders Snowmobile Club and the Schweitzer Rescue Squad. Ted McCormick and Dan Hart, both 16, rode to the top of Schweitzer about noon Monday and set out across the ridge towards Baldy Mountain. At 7 p.m., it was reported to the sheriff’s office they had not yet arrived home. The sheriff notified Ted Farmin of the Winter Riders, who organized a search party of 12 snowmobilers. Four of them took off up Baldy Road in search of the pair; the other eight rode up the Sand Creek drainage. This group located the boys’ tracks, then transported Schweitzer’s Rescue Squad up to the woods. The youths were finally found by Bob Pitts and three other snowmobilers behind the old town dump on Baldy Road. Apart from being cold and tired, they were in good health.
