PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint wrestling grapples to senior night win

Sandpoint 54, Moscow 28 

SANDPOINT — Senior Ashlei Hawkins notched his 100th career varsity win and the host Bulldogs racked up seven pins for a senior night victory over the Bears on Friday at Les Rogers Court.

Senior Jorden Tyler (190) wrestled to a win by pin in the first round, Zak Wood (120), Hawkins and Daniel Holman (165) to wins by pin in the second, and Gage Martin (138), Colter Cates (157) and Jackson Holman (215) finished things off with wins by pin in the third round. Ty Wood (98) and Charlie Becker (175) tallied wins by forfeit for the Bulldogs.

For the girls, Sandpoint High senior Emma Garman pinned Aubrey Vogel in the second round while Avery Inge (132) pinned Addison Vieux in the first. In a trio of extra exhibition matches, Bayah Ratigan, Nya Eby, and Hunter Edmondson all wrestled to wins by pin for the Lady Bulldogs.

Sandpoint's girls will travel to the Lake City Girls Tournament today. Sandpoint's boys will return to action Friday, Feb. 21, for the 5A Inland Empire League district championships, which will be hosted by Lewiston High.

Bonners Ferry 78, Timberlake 35

BONNERS FERRY — Senior Brody Rice produced a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds and dished out six assists as the host Badgers defeated the Tigers in their 4A Intermountain League and regular season finale Friday.

Senior Asher Williams, who was honored for recently hitting the 2,000-point milestone on the night, registered a game-high 18 points and five assists for Bonners Ferry, which outscored Timberlake 46-13 during the middle two quarters to pull away.

Senior Thomas Bateman recorded 17 points, putting him at just nine points away from the 1,000-point milestone, and had seven rebounds and four blocks down low. Junior Sulay Abubakari added 11 points and senior Eli Blackmore had nine, all from 3-point range, for the Badgers.

Senior Tyler Engelson had a team-high 11 points for Timberlake.

No. 1 Bonners Ferry (20-1, 2-0) will host No. 2 Timberlake for the first round of the 4A IML district tournament Monday, Feb. 24. If the Badgers win the first game, they are district champions and will head to the 4A state tournament. If the Tigers win, the tournament will be played in a best-of-three series format.

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Brock Yarbrough recorded 16 points, senior Emerik Jones added 14 and the visiting Bulldogs rallied to an Inland Empire League win Friday, sweeping the season series with the Hawks.

Junior Kingston Corbett netted 10 points, eight in the first half, sophomore Knox Williams eight points, including two 3-pointers for Sandpoint, which led 23-18 at halftime.

Mason Hensley and Zack Cook tied a team-high eight points apiece for Lakeland.

Sandpoint (9-10, 4-4) hosts Lewiston for their IEL and regular season finale Tuesday.

WALLACE — Junior Owen Howard collected a double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds and blocked three shots as the visiting Wampus Cats fell to the Miners in their 2A Scenic Idaho Conference and regular season finale on Friday at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Junior Westin Caven contributed 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds while senior Evrett Montgomery chipped in eight points for Clark Fork, which trailed 23-15 at intermission.

Senior Julian Davis had 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists and five steals for Wallace. Freshman Cooper Miller added 17 points and eight rebounds.

No. 4 Clark Fork (4-11, 0-6) will travel to No. 1 Lakeside on Monday for the first round of the 2A SIC district tournament.
