MOVE CLOCKS AHEAD SUNDAY

Northern Idaho and sister states will change to emergency Daylight Saving Time Sunday, with all clocks set ahead one hour. The emergency [Energy Conservation] action is due to a Congressional bill mandating a 4 month Standard Time/ 8 month Daylight Time schedule. Given an exemption, Southern Idaho will be on Mountain Time till Apr. 27.

NEW WINTER CARNIVAL EVENTS

The Second Annual Sandpoint Winter Carnival offers some new events. On Saturday, Third Avenue between Cedar and Main will be blocked off for a 3 p.m. broom hockey game featuring teams from the U of I and Whitefish, Mont.  Local players will then organize to play as many matches as there are teams. Old brooms are needed, so Riccardo’s and The Middle Earth are offering a free beer to anyone bringing in a broom before Saturday noon. At 7 p.m. Saturday, there is arm wrestling at Riccardo’s, with both men’s and ladies’ events. Tina’s Thimblina in the Fidelity Trust Building, which will have a Winter Carnival Craft Fair in the back of the store, offers a 10 percent discount on all clothing. The Ski Swap, in the same building, is offering 25 percent off for the carnival. A growing list of restaurants will discount all meals 10 percent, including Schweitzer’s Keg.

Feb. 20, 1950 – FINGER WOUNDS TREATED

On Saturday, Wendel Bergman, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. K.C. Bergman, 1224 Larch, had the index finger of his left hand caught in the car door. Several sutures were required to close the wound.

Wash day was really “blue Monday” for Mrs. Max Salesky of the Lincoln hotel, who caught her right index and ring fingers in the wringer, forcing the middle finger back and tearing the web between the fingers so that deep sutures were needed.
