Wildfire safety class this weekend

Responsible Growth * NE Washington and the Selkirk Alliance for Science are presenting a free forest fire awareness, protection, and prevention program Saturday, March 1. 

The program will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Camas Center for Community Wellness, 1821 LeClerc Road North in Cusick, Wash. — about 24 miles northwest of Priest River in Pend Oreille County, Wash.

This event is being held in partnership with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians through its Charitable Fund and the Inatai Foundation. 

Information will be provided by the Department of Natural Resources, South Pend Oreille Fire District, Pend Oreille County Emergency Management, Pend Oreille Sheriff's Office, Pend Oreille Conservation District, PUD, U.S. Forest Service, and others. 

The presenters will provide instruction on how residents can prepare for, and protect their families and homes from, a catastrophic wildfire. 

Refreshments and beverages will be provided.
