Vintage snowmobile races being held this weekend
NORDMAN — If you're looking to heat up a chilly weekend, look no further than the vintage snowmobile races at Priest Lake.
Held Saturday and Sunday at the USFS airstrip on Highway 57 near Nordman, the races will begin at 10 a.m. each day. Organizers said entry to the races is free but donations will be accepted to help offset the event's cost.
Since the first races held in 2014, organizers said the event has grown in popularity and the Priest Lake event is now the second largest venue for vintage snowmobile racing in the United States.
Recent races have attracted more than 300, with participants coming from across the Pacific Northwest and Canada to compete. Vintage snowmobiles — those that were built in 1985 or older — are eligible to race. Races include stock and modified classes available, 120 Kitty Cat class for children ages 4-10, junior classes for ages 11-16, women’s classes, amateur and advanced classes and a master’s class for those 55 and older.
This weekend's races are the first of two such events being held at Priest Lake this season. In addition to this weekend's races, the West Coast Ice Oval Championships are scheduled for Feb. 15-16.
