IPUC approves water utility application

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has approved an application submitted by a Bonner County water utility to grant it a certificate of public convenience and necessity.

Priest Lake Water, LLC applied for the certificate to serve 72 customers in the Marvin Estates Subdivision near Priest Lake, Idaho. When the subdivision is completely built out, Priest Lake Water could serve up to 113 lots.

With the approval of the certificate of public convenience and necessity, the commission will have formal regulatory jurisdiction over Priest Lake Water. The utility is required to adopt the commission’s Utility Customer Relations Rules. The rules provide a guide for just, reasonable and nondiscriminatory treatment of customers. Priest Lake Water also will be required to adopt an accounting system consistent with information required by the commission’s annual report for small water companies.

Library hosting talk on saving seeds

Spring is coming and thoughts are turning to garden planning. Seed savers and those wishing to learn about saving locally adapted seeds are invited to join West Bonner seed savers Thursday, Jan. 30, 2 p.m. at the Priest River Library. The group will package and organize donated seeds and discuss all things garden. Donations of home-grown seeds or unwanted non-hybrid seeds of all kinds are welcome.

The Seed Library was established in 2014 at the Priest River Library and is a free seed exchange. The Seed Library supports the current trend toward self-sufficiency, focusing on heirloom and open pollinated varieties that are suited to North Idaho’s short growing season. For more information, email westbonnerseeds@gmail.com or join in on Facebook at facebook.com/groups/westbonnerseedsavers.

Program offers tips on making dog treats

If you're wanted to give your dog the very best — but want to make sure the treats are healthy — you might consider making your own healthy dog treats.

The community is invited to attend a program at noon Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Priest River Library with Carlton Gallant and make their own healthy dog treats.

Let’s face it … we love our pups and want to give them the best, but sometimes the best is pretty expensive. Come learn how to make a variety of different dog treats in a hands-on class using healthy ingredients that won’t break the bank.

The class is free and all materials will be provided. It is open to ages 14 and above. To register, contact the library at 208-448-2207.
