| January 31, 2025 1:00 AM

Joan Marie Oyler Taylor, 80, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Jan. 23, 2025.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 602 Schweitzer Cutoff Road, Sandpoint, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Priest River, Idaho. A viewing for family and friends will be at 9 a.m. in the Relief Society Room.

Joan was born in Roseburg, Ore., on Nov. 4, 1944. She spent her earlier years living in Florida and was a young teenager when she moved to California.

She settled in Tracy, Calif. Joan married John Robert Taylor on May 6, 1967, in Carson City, Nev. She worked for the Tracy Press Newspaper and eventually joined John at the Goodyear Tire dealership in Tracy, working in the office and supporting John in his ownership responsibilities of the shop.

In 1980, the family moved to the Sandpoint area. During these years, she ran the family ranch in Priest River. She also worked for Northern Energy Propane and Coldwater Creek before becoming a CNA.

Shortly after the passing of her beloved John, she moved to Juneau, Alaska, where she worked for Alaska Electric Light & Power for eight years. After retiring in 2010, she longed for the warmer climate of Florida. Joan made dear friends with every move but eventually found herself back in North Idaho.

Joan had a soft spot for animals. She nurtured a herd of 100 sheep and fed wild raccoons and birds. She had many pets, but cats were her people.

She enjoyed reading, authoring stories, and photography. She loved traveling, family campouts, and outdoor adventures.

Joan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she dedicated time to family history work. She was well-loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by five children: Ken Taylor (Sue Ellen), Tracy, Calif.; Joyce Bruce (Dave), Kent, Wash.; Janice Nolan (Craig), Sioux City, Iowa; Andy Taylor (Angela), Puyallup, Wash.; and Diana Chadwick, Battleground, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Robert Taylor; her brother, Donald Gene Childers; and a grandson, Jeffrey Dees.

Family and friends are invited to sign Joan’s online guest book at coffeltfuneral.com.

Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service.
