June 10, 1950 – GOLDEN JUBILEE

All indications are that Sandpoint’s 50th birthday party will be the biggest celebration in the Inland Empire over the Fourth. Principal events of the big Golden Jubilee celebration will be an outboard fishing contest on July 2; kiddies pet parade and professional wrestling card July 3; and an old-time parade, boat races and fireworks display on the Fourth. There will be a number of concessions, and Meeker’s Shows, the largest collection of carnival rides in the Northwest, will be here July 1-4.

STREET OILING TO START SOON

The Sandpoint highway district is bending every effort to get oil laid on city streets before July 4, a resident who appeared on behalf of property owners in the residential district was told at the city council meeting Monday. Calling attention to Sandpoint’s golden jubilee celebration, he urged that everything possible be done to lay the dust before the first of July. “After all, we are 50 years old now and we should do something about our streets,” he said, to which Councilman A.R. Nelson quipped: “Well you know, the streets can get pretty bad in 50 years.”
