Project's lack of parking lacks common sense

| June 10, 2025 1:00 AM

I strongly agree with the My Turn contribution (Daily Bee, June 3, 2025) as written by Ann Giantvalley. The proposed apartment building on Church Street has various drawbacks as described by Ann.

In particular, my concern is the obvious and glaring lack of appropriate parking. It may be that current city codes allow such a development. But when those older codes were approved, did those involved foresee such a proposal? The lack of suitable parking clearly violates common sense. Rather than pushing the proposal through and catering to outside developers, would it not be better to amend the existing city code? Is that not possible?

To argue that there might be a downtown parking garage in the future just kicks the can down the road. There is no guarantee of that in the near future, if ever. And what problems will arise from that?
