Program takes mystery out of 'artrepreneurship'
SANDPOINT — Artists looking to take their practice to the next level won’t want to miss this opportunity as the Idaho Commission on the Arts, in partnership with the Pend Oreille Arts Council, is bringing My Artrepreneur Program.
The intensive, hands-on business course is designed specifically for working artists. The nationally recognized program guides artists through the essential tools and strategies needed to build a sustainable career in the arts. From branding and pricing to crafting a business plan and building a customer base, MAP takes the mystery out of entrepreneurship for artists — putting the business side of their art in their hands — on their terms and with their art at the center.
Participants will gain more than 40 hours of instruction over four immersive weekends from July to November, held at the University of Idaho Organic Agriculture Center in Sandpoint. Classes will be held July 19-20, Aug. 2-3, Sept. 13-14 and Nov. 15-16, running from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sundays. Interim progress sessions will be held online.
Enrollment is limited and intended for artists who are serious about growing their creative business. The cost is $300, which includes all course materials and lunches. Lodging is not included.
Adapted from the award-winning Montana Artrepreneur Program, which helped over 400 artists boost their net income by an average of 152%, this course equips artists with 35 practical tools, POAC officials said in a press release.
Among the tools taught include creation of an artist statement that reflects their voice, a working product inventory and pricing strategy, a cohesive brand and business plan and the necessary skills to build professional relationships and attract patrons
“My Artrepreneur is not just about learning — it’s about doing,” said John McMahon, operations analyst with the Idaho Commission on the Arts. “This program helps artists get organized, get focused, and most importantly, get results.”
The Idaho Commission on the Arts is the official state agency dedicated to supporting and developing the arts in Idaho. Through education, access, and investment, the Commission empowers artists, organizations, and communities to thrive.
