June 24, 1975 – CADETTE SCOUTS HONORED
Senior Girl Scout Troop 423 hostessed a cookout at city beach for Cadette Troops 144 and 123. Eighteen Cadettes and four Seniors attended. The Cadettes were invited to join Troop 423 in the fall. After dinner, the girls enjoyed singing, with Carol Mahler on guitar. Adults present were Mrs. Donald Sisler and Mrs. Gerald Madsen, Troop 133 co-leaders; Mrs. Duane Davis, Troop 123 leader; Mrs. Perry Palmer, Neighborhood Chairman; and Mrs. Edward Robinson, Troop 423 leader. Ed Robinson and son, Eddie Gene, were guests for the evening.

FFA MEMBERS WORK ON PLAYGROUND
Sandpoint FFA chapter is improving the preschool playground at the Riverside building. Club members, led by president Brian Dockins, obtained donations to finish the playground. Dockins concrete donated a slab and FFA obtained top soil. FFA members have completed some playground items. Working on the project early Monday were Sherlene Baker, Carol Shook and Doug Powers; other members came during the day. Soon the playground will be a model area with grassy yard and colorful equipment.

OVERHOLSERS’ GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. J.E. [Jeff] Overholser, Sr. will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on June 29 with open house in their Lakeshore Drive home, hosted by their two sons and their families: Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Overholser, Jr. and daughters, Susan and Nancy, Spokane, and Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Overholser and daughters, Heidi and Katrina, Sandpoint.

June 24, 1950 – COUNTY NOSE COUNT DOWN
Civic leaders and the Chamber of Commerce today expressed criticism of Bonner county’s census count and raised sharp questions as to its accuracy, noting there are substantial indications the county population has grown, instead of decreasing from 15,667 in 1940 to 14,822 as reported today. The census shows the city of Sandpoint dropped from 4356 in 1940 to 4262 this year. Priest River grew from 1056 to 1580, Hope went from 110 to 115, while East Hope increased from 115 to 152. Clark Fork’s population dropped from 430 to 383.

ODEN SCHOOL PETITIONS DIFFER
At Thursday’s school board meeting, two petitions from the Oden school district were presented. One, signed by 16 names, asked the board to maintain the established attendance unit. The second, signed by 30, asked the board to close the Oden unit and transport the 31 Oden children to the Hope school.

KIDDIES PET PARADE
Youngsters of the Inland Empire aren’t being overlooked in plans for Sandpoint’s three-day Golden Jubilee celebration. On the morning of July 3, there will be a kiddies pet parade on downtown streets, and all youngsters are invited to enter their pets, bikes or just march with the other kids.
