BURNETT IS GRASSMAN OF THE YEAR

Art Burnett, 1975 Bonner County Grassman of the Year, has never used a sack of commercial fertilizer in 32 years of farming. “We use what we haul out of the barnyard,” said Burnett, who raises Aberdeen Angus cattle on his 185-acre ranch at Oden. One hundred acres of his ranch is used for producing feed, including alfalfa, mixed grass hay and grain. Burnett believes that better farming practice is the only hope for the small farmer. “That’s the only way we’re going to hang on,” he said. We’ve got to keep our farms together and not allow them to be cut up.”

LAKE LEVEL REACHED 2067.2 SUNDAY

High water in Lake Pend Oreille crowned Sunday at 2067.2 feet and since then has dropped back to 2067. There is a large amount of small drift on the lake and off the beach, which may give considerable trouble during the outboard races here on July 4.

JUBILEE EDITION GREW LIKE TOPSY

Last month the News-Bulletin requested old time pictures, with plans to publish a Golden Jubilee edition. We thought we would get out 18 or 20 pages; as the material and pictures began to pour in, we found we had a bear by the tail for sure and upped our plan to 24 pages. In the wee small hours this morning the News-Bulletin’s Golden Jubilee edition went into the mails, at 38 pages – and still we couldn’t publish everything we wanted to.
