SANDPOINT — Priest River High rising junior Broden Collins rung up six batters over five quality frames on the rubber and the Sasquatch completed a sweep of the Blue Devils "A", winning the nightcap by a two-run margin Saturday at War Memorial Field.
Collins' outing allowed Sandpoint to take a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. Sandpoint High rising sophomore John Holman recorded an RBI single in the first inning and the Sasquatch registered two runs via a groundout and fielder's choice in the fourth.
Holman then recorded a sacrifice fly in the sixth frame before Sandpoint High rising sophomore Blake Bogadi retired the side in the seventh. Bogadi was impressive in the win, notching a two-inning save while striking out one batter and allowing just one hit.
Timberlake High rising junior Nathan Beardsall singled in the contest, his ninth straight game with a base knock and 15th hit in his last 27 at-bats.
The Sasquatch 16U will return to action Thursday through Saturday, and potentially Sunday with a championship appearance, at the Spokane Wood Bat Classic. They're set to face the Trail Orioles of British Columbia, the Walla Walla Grizzlies, the Frenchtown Broncos and the East Valley Knights in Junior division pool play over the first two days at East Valley High in Spokane Valley.
