Registration due for navigation workshop
SANDPOINT — Individuals interested in learning how to verify locations and distances without technology are encouraged to sign up for a Map and Compass for Forestry class hosted Saturday, March 22, at the University of Idaho Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center.
Registration is due March 14 and costs $10 to cover educational material and refreshments. The class is limited to 40 participants.
Sean Mitzel, an Idaho Master Forest Steward, will teach individuals how to properly use a magnetic compass and to read and articulate a map. While modern foresters verify locations and distances with GPS receivers, the class offers an alternative method that doesn’t rely on technology.
The event is broken down into two, three-hour sessions. The program will feature an indoor informational lecture with map exercises and outdoor field activities, giving the opportunity to practice what has been taught.
Registration for the event can be found here: https://shorturl.at/E5rqi. Classes will start at 9 a.m.
