May 6, 1950 – TRUMAN TO STOP HERE
Making his only stop in North Idaho, President Truman will deliver a 10-minute address at the Northern Pacific station here May 11. The high school band directed by Adair Hilligoss will parade through the city streets before the presidential special arrives and will play at the station as the train pulls in. Mayor Gray will greet President Truman and the Democratic central committee will present Mrs. Truman and Margaret Truman with flowers. A radio transcription of the president’s talk will later be rebroadcast over station KSPT.

APPEAL FOR FISH FOR PRESIDENT
Some fisherman can make a name for himself! When President Truman’s train stops here, it is hoped to be able to give him a single large fish or a mess of smaller fish as a gift from this area. R.E. Dow, Democratic county chairman, has cleared with Washington the proposal to make such a gift. The chamber of commerce appeals to local fishermen to cooperate by fishing hard over the coming week. A single large Kamloops or Dolly Varden is desired, or a half dozen to 10 smaller fish. Any fisherman wishing to aid in this project is asked to leave such fish at the Pend Oreille Sport shop in Sandpoint.
