Garbage bags of gratitude
One of the best things about living in Idaho is coming back to it. From the highway you know the moment you leave one of our neighboring states and enter Idaho. There’s just something appealing to the eye: the landscape, the tidiness of our roads, the friendliness at gas stations.
There’s a certain care and conscientiousness that exists here. That’s why it was such a shock in mid-March to see all the trash on U.S. 95 south between Sagle and Cocollala. "Oh no," I thought. "Are we becoming like State X?" The next time I travelled that stretch I saw row after row of neat orange garbage bags by the roadside containing all the trash from the previous week. Someone put in a lot of work. I mean, a lot.
I don’t know who manages or funds this, but I offer them my sincere gratitude and they should be recognized publicly. It was a proud Idaho moment … to see an eyesore fixed so quickly and completely. A thousand thank yous.
