PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint boys lacrosse stuns Lake City, downs ICA
BOYS LACROSSE
Sandpoint 8, Lake City 7
SANDPOINT — Kohta Fisher and the Bulldogs made a statement on Monday night.
Fisher scored four goals, including two in the fourth quarter, and Sandpoint, after falling to the Timberwolves by a score of 11-2 earlier this season, notched a one-goal IHSLL North Division win over Lake City in what was a gritty performance at War Memorial Field.
"Monday's game was one to remember as a program," Sandpoint High head coach Ty Wilson said. "We always know when Lake City is on our schedule we are in for a tough game, and last night was no different. I told the team before the game that my challenge to them was to out work the guy next to them on the field. I truly believe the score reflects pure work ethic for four quarters of that game."
Senior Jacob Aexel added two goals, a team-high seven groundballs, and his seventh and eighth assists of the season while junior Oliver Porieitis tallied two goals of his own as the Bulldogs used a 3-1 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat.
Sophomore Ryan Gaffney made a career-high 12 saves in between the posts and freshman Liam Bowen picked up a tied for career-high 10 groundballs and won a tied for career-high 10 faceoffs in the winning effort.

Led by Stevens, Lady Bulldogs boot Bears from district tourney
Lewiston 18, Sandpoint 3
Sandpoint 13, Moscow 11
LEWISTON — In crunch time, Marlee Stevens got the job done.
The Sandpoint High freshman went the distance in the circle, striking out eight batters, and was 4-for-5 with four singles at the plate as the No. 4 Lady Bulldogs kept their season alive with a win over the No. 3 Lady Bears in a 5A Inland Empire League District 1-2 loser-out game held Tuesday at Airport Park.
Sandpoint, after falling to No. 1 Lewiston in a first round matchup earlier in the day, struck first with a 7-run top of the second inning in which the Lady Bulldogs scored runs in six straight plate appearances. Senior Ainsley Hull started off the rally with an RBI triple, senior Baylie Hindle, sophomore Teagan Newsom, and freshman Avery Inge smashed RBI doubles, and Marlee Stevens and junior Cadence Skibitsky contributed RBI singles during the back half of the run.
Moscow closed the gap to 10-7 in the top of the fifth, but Skibitsky mashed another RBI single in the sixth, senior Emma Kohal an RBI single in the seventh to give Sandpoint the extra boost they needed to obtain the victory.
Sandpoint High head coach Leah Platt noted that freshmen Raelyn Olsen and Taylor Bannick also played a big role in the win, serving as courtesy runners that allowed Stevens, who throw over 130 pitchers, and Inge and junior Arah Stevens, the team's catchers, to remain in the game longer.
"Marlee (Stevens) really had to fight in that game; Moscow has good hitters so she had to hit her spots," coach Platt said. "The girls came together today and battled as a team. Our outfield worked hard and took good angles to cut off balls, we were selective at the plate and went deep into counts, and our catches kept runners from advancing."
In the first game of the day against the Lady Bengals, freshman Bailey Wilson knocked a two-run single and Marlee Stevens had an RBI single, putting her at 5-for-6 with five singles across the first two games of the tournament.
No. 3 Sandpoint (7-19) will face No. 2 Lakeland, which lost to No. 1 Lewiston 9-8 via a walk-off in the district championship game, in a 5A IEL district tournament loser-out game Thursday at Lakeland High. The winner will advance to a 5A state tournament play-in game against a team from District 3's Southern Idaho Conference.
